Exception Petition FormIf a student wants to request an exception to a requirement in the core curriculum or wishes to substitute courses for stated requirements, the student should file an Exception Petition Form, which will then go to the Academic Standards Committee for consideration. Forms are available in the Registrar's Office and in most departmental offices. Excessive AbsencesStudents who fail to meet class attendance requirements can be withdrawn from the class by the professor, who must submit an excessive absence via the on-line Excessive Absence form in ISIS. A grade of "WF" will automatically be assigned to the student. Students may regain admittance to the course only by permission of the instructor and the Department Chair offering the course. After receipt of the form, the Office of the Registrar will notify the student via CougarNet e-mail. Students who wish to officially withdraw from a course after a grade of "WF" has been assigned, but prior to the "W" grade deadline, will be referred to the instructor. If the professor agrees to change the "WF" to a "W," the instructor must notify the Office of the Registrar, requesting that the excessive absence status be cancelled. A student auditing a course who fails to meet class participation and assignment requirements or who exceeds the total number of allowed absences may be dropped from the course by the instructor and assigned a grade of "W." Exclusion, AcademicA student is academically excluded when, at the end of a probationary semester, his or her semester grade point average is lower than 2.0 and the institutional grade point average falls below the satisfactory progress levels or a required developmental studies subject area is not satisfied after three course attempts. The length of exclusion resulting from grade point averages will be a minimum of one semester after the first and second exclusion and a minimum of one calendar year after the third exclusion. The length of exclusion for students who fail to complete a required learning support subject area after three attempts will be three years. A student may appeal for one additional learning support course attempt before being placed on exclusion. If approved, the student may enroll in that learning support course only. Credit earned at another institution during a mandatory exclusion period will not transfer back to Columbus State University. Exit ExaminationsPrior to a student’s graduation, the university and the student’s college may require competency tests appropriate to a student's program of study. Information relative to these tests is available in the student’s college or in the major department.
