O

Orientation

Orientation is expected of all entering freshmen. The cost varies depending on the program a student attends. Every summer there are numerous orientation sessions so students can choose the one that best fits their needs. The purposes of orientation are to:

  • Familiarize students with the campus, including facilities and student services.
  • Provide students with essential information and skills for succeeding in college.
  • Familiarize students with campus policies and procedures.
  • Provide students with an overview of the core curriculum and basic academic requirements.
  • Provide a friendly atmosphere for registration for courses.
  • Help students socialize and make friends the first day on campus.
Entering freshmen who do not attend orientation may not register for classes until late registration, which is subject to a late fee. Beginning Spring 2008, transfer students will be required to attend orientation on campus or to complete the orientation process online.

See the Orientation web page.

Outcomes Assessment

The CAAP and College Outcomes Surveys are administered in alternating years and are designed to determine academic achievement and changes in attitudes and values. Participation is mandatory and scores become part of the student's official record. The assessment is taken during the student's senior year. There is no fee for the assessment but appointments are required. Contact the Testing Center at 706-507-8020.

Overloads

Enrollment in more than 19 semester hours during fall or spring semester is considered an overload for undergraduate students. Enrollment in more than 13 semester hours during summer term is considered an overload for undergraduates. Academically superior students may take an overload with the approval of the dean of the college in which they are enrolled.
