Readmission

Former students who wish to enroll in Columbus State University after an absence of one year must submit an application for re-entry to the Director of Admissions. Students who have registered at other institutions must request that official transcripts of records be sent to the Director of Admissions prior to the published application deadline.

Students who are academically ineligible to re-enroll should consult the "Undergraduate Academic Regulations" section of the Columbus State University catalog.

Refund Deadline

Advisors should refer students to the refund policy at the CSU web site for the dateline schedule for refunds.

Regents' Test/ Alternative Institutional Regents’ Test

All students must take the Regents' Test, a two-part exam consisting of reading and writing, before completing 30 semester hours. Students who have not passed both parts of the Regents' Test by the time they have earned 45 hours must take learning support courses through University College each semester until they pass the exam. Transfer students must take the test during their first semester.

The test is offered each semester and students must register online through the Registration Menu in ISIS during specified dates. A confirmation letter, with important information about the test, can then be printed.

If the student has taken 45 semester hours of coursework and has failed to pass one or both parts of the Regents’ Test, the student is required to enroll in and complete non-degree remedial courses for the part(s) failed:

  • RGTE 0198 Regents’ Test Remediation: Reading
  • RGTE 0199 Regents’ Test Remediation: Writing.
Each course lasts approximately 10 weeks so the student can repeat the failed portion of the Regents’ Test in the same semester in which he/she enrolls in and passes the remedial courses.

Test Scores

To access your Regents'Test scores log on to ISIS and click on the student services and financial aid link. Next, click on the student records link. Click on the academic advising link. As you scroll down the page, the Regents' information will be listed under the General University Requirements section. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate contact the Testing Center.

Alternative Regents' Test

Columbus State University has developed an Alternative Regents' Test for students whose native language is not English. To be eligible, students normally must have attended high school where the language of instruction was not English and must have submitted a TOEFL score when they applied to CSU. Students who think they may be eligible to take this test should contact the Director of the Testing Center.

To exempt the Regents’ Test...
Students with SAT-I Verbal scores of at least 510 or ACT Reading scores of at least 23 will be considered to have fulfilled the reading comprehension requirement of the Regents’ Test and do not need to take the reading portion of the Regents’ Test. Scores must be from a national administration of the SAT or ACT; therefore, scores from institutional SAT (ISAT) or residual ACT tests will not be acceptable for this purpose.
Students with College Board Advanced Placement (AP) English scores of at least 3, International Baccalaureate (IB) higher-level English scores of at least 4, or SAT II English Writing scores of at least 650 or a combination of an SAT Verbal score of at least 530 plus an "A" in ENGL 1101, or an SAT Verbal score of at least 590 plus a "B" in ENGL 1101 will be considered as having fulfilled the essay requirement of the Regents’ Test and do not need to take the essay portion of the Regents’ Test

Advisors should refer students to the Schedule of Courses booklet for dates to sign up for the Regents’ Test and dates of the Regents’ Test. Responsibility for administering the Regents' Test and for reviewing test scores with students resides in the CSU Testing Center (706-568-2226).

Repeating a Course

Students may repeat a course for a better grade or to relearn material. Students will not earn additional credit for repeated courses. The more recent grade will be substituted for the earlier grade (regardless of grade earned) and the grade point average will be adjusted accordingly. No longer will the earlier grade and the more recent grade be averaged.

Both grades will show on the transcript, but only the most recent is figured in the GPA. The courses must be exact matches or, due to the conversion to semesters, the semester-system equivalent to a quarter-system course. For example MATH 1111 (semester-system course) is considered the same course as MAT 121(quarter-system course). Thus, if a student earned a D in MAT 121 in 1995 but retakes the course at MATH 1111 and gets an A, only the A will be counted in the GPA.
