Transfer Credit
The Office of the Registrar evaluates transfer credit upon receipt of an application for admission, application fee, and official college transcripts from all institutions the student previously attended.
Generally, all courses from regionally accredited institutions transfer to CSU, regardless of grade. Transferred courses can be viewed on the student's Academic Transcript or Academic Advising Record on CougarNet.
Applicability of transfer courses towards the student's degree may be viewed on the Degree Evaluation Report (DER) on CougarNet. A new evaluation should be generated every time prior to viewing the DER.
View the Detailed Requirements portion of the DER to access the specific degree requirements. Areas in red indicate that the requirements are not satisfied. View the Additional Information portion of the DER for non-course requirements and courses that are not currently applying to the degree.
Students should see their Academic Advisor during their first term of enrollment to perform any adjustments to the DER. The student should be prepared to present a course description from the catalog year in which he or she took the course, as well as a syllabus.
Transfer Ombudsman
Each college or university within the Georgia system has a transfer ombudsman in charge of all transfer issues. Columbus State's ombudsman is located in the Office of the Registrar (706-507-8800).

Transfer Students (USG)
Due to the semester conversion, transferring within the University System of Georgia is easier than in the past. To aid in transferring, many developmental and lower division courses (0000-2999) share common numbering, titles, and course descriptions across the University System.
Any area (A-F) of the core curriculum that a student has completed at another System institution will be accepted by the receiving System institution as being complete, provided the student does not change majors or programs of study.
The academic department may require that these transfers complete requirements as specified for native students; however, the total number of hours required of a transfer student for the baccalaureate degree shall not exceed the number of hours required of native students for the same major field. So, if a core area is satisfied in transfer but another course is needed as a prerequisite for upper level courses in the student's major, the prerequisite course may be used as an elective. If the elective area is already satisfied, the prerequisite course must either be waived or substituted for another course in the program.
Please contact the Transfer Ombudsman for questions regarding USG transfer students.
Transient Students
Transient students are those who are temporarily enrolled at Columbus State University, who are not working toward a degree, and who intend to transfer credits earned at Columbus State University to another institution. In order to determine which courses will transfer to the other institution, the student should communicate with the other institution and have a copy of that institution’s catalog.
